Wildflowers – WOW Day information

Dear parents and carers of Wildflowers class,

I hope you have all had a restful Christmas and I wish you all a happy new year.

I am very much looking forward to starting work as Wildflowers class teacher next week! I hope the children are as excited as I am for the start of the new term.
Over the last few days I have been busily planning lessons for the Spring term. As you know, our topic is going to be ‘Frozen Kingdoms’, and as part of this topic we will be studying geographical and historical themes such as the Arctic and Antarctica, famous explorers, polar landscapes and oceans and historical events such as the sinking of the Titanic.

For our WOW day on Friday 8th January, we are going to spend the day learning about the Titanic. On this day, your child is welcome to come to school dressed as a passenger or crew member on board the ship. This could be a passenger from any class or a crew member of any description, including the captain! Hopefully this is a costume you can come up with using clothes you already have at home. We will be conducting lots of research in to Titanic’s voyage and her sad ending, and in the afternoon we will be building models of the Titanic, in groups.

For this activity, if you have any cardboard boxes/Christmas wrapping paper rolls/kitchen roll tubes/egg boxes etc. that you could send in to school, it would be greatly appreciated. If you could send them in on Monday or Tuesday, there will be enough time to quarantine them before we use them on Friday.

I will of course take lots of photos to post on the class page of the school website.

The following link should provide you with information about the different passengers on board the ship, to help with costumes:

Thank you very much for your support, and I look forward to meeting you/speaking to you as current restrictions allow over the coming weeks and months.

Best wishes,
Miss Warburton
