SIAMS inspection on Thursday 9th February 2023

We are a church school and are inspected under the SIAMS framework and it is the equivalent of the Ofsted inspection for church schools. Mark Millinson is going to be inspecting our school tomorrow and he would like to meet with parents at 3:20pm – 3:50pm on Thursday to gain your views of our school. If you are available to speak with him about our school, that would be great and if you are available, the after school club can be used for childcare.

If you are available, please let the office know or email me at cwoodward@st-james.derbyshire.sch.uk. I will collect you at the gate at 3:15pm, bring you into school and arrange for your child(ren) to go into after school club.

Thank you for supporting our school, it is very much appreciated.

I am sorry for the confusion in the text message, many people only got the second message.

Important dates and industrial action update

I hope you are all well and ready for the weekend.

Industrial action

You may be aware from the news that the National Education Union (NEU) have balloted members and they now have a mandate for industrial action. They haven’t formally declared strike action but it is expected. There will be 7 days of strikes and 4 days for individual members.

The date for our region are:

  • Wednesday 1st February 2023
  • Wednesday 1st March 2023
  • Wednesday 15th March 2023
  • Thursday16th March 2023

I am currently liaising with staff to determine the impact this may have on our school. NEU members are not obliged to declare if they intend to strike or not. If a teacher in the NEU is taking strike action, the class will close on one, some or all of the dates above.  Our NEU members fully understand the difficulties associated with classes closing and they will give as much notice as possible.

I will share further information with parents and carers at the earliest opportunity.

Dates for the next two weeks

Welcome back and dates for next week

Happy New year everyone,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and start to the new year.

It is great to see everyone back in school. There have been lots of WOW days the pupils are clearly enjoying their new topics.

Dates for W/C 16th January

  • Tuesday17th January – 9am – 9:30am – KS2 timetables workshops and parents are welcome – More details on class dojo.

Attendance

The doors open at 8:45am and the register closes at 9am. Lessons start at 9am and if pupils are late, they miss phonics and spellings. We all know that things happen sometimes and it can be unavoidable. However,  this week there have been 59 lates. Overall, it was 14.2 hours of missed learning, which is a significant amount of time. If you need any support or to discuss lates, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Weather

We know how quickly the weather can change in Glossop but there are freezing temperatures and the possibility of snow forecast for Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure pupils are sent to school with coats, gloves, hats  and spare socks.

Have a lovely weekend.
